Wickedly Inspirational Women: April Lampert and Amy Baldwin – Presenters of the Shameless Sex podcast.
At Something Wicked we design lingerie that gives you confidence, to be inspired to be your boldest, most wicked self. We love meeting people who are aligned with our ambition to empower women to feel confident in every possible way, so when we got the opportunity to have a conversation with our next two guests, we couldn’t wait to get started!
For our latest Wickedly Inspirational Women interview, we are up close and personal with April Lampert and Amy Baldwin, the two incredible women behind the Shameless Sex podcast. Initiating shame-free conversations about sex and relationships, they strive to normalise all expressions of consensual sex. Their podcast does not shy away from any topics, and they encourage their listeners to embrace their desires with confidence.
As well as the podcast, their events, online classes, book and blog are an incredible collection of resources, with a key message throughout that is so important: Understanding and advocating for your own needs isn’t selfish – it’s essential.
Tell us a bit about yourself, name, age, where you live?
We’re April Lampert and Amy Baldwin, the voices behind Shameless Sex podcast, launched in 2017 and we haven’t missed a release week since. Our journey began after working in the adult pleasure product industry for over a decade, teaching workshops and then appearing as guests on the renowned Sex With Emily podcast. That guest appearance – titled Orgasms, Squirting, and The Year of Anal Licking – became a hit episode and inspired us to create our own show.
Currently, we’re both based in Santa Cruz, California. However April is originally from Wisconsin (aka super conservative). April at 42 and Amy just turned 40, so we are embracing our perimenopause journey with humor and grace 🙂
What do you do?
We wear multiple hats in the sexuality education and pleasure product industries. As certified sex educators, we represent trusted brands in the adult toy industry while running our podcast. Amy combines her expertise as a sex and relationship coach with co-owning purepleasureshop.com, an online high-end adult store that evolved from the brick-and-mortar shop where April started her career. April has built her reputation growing companies like Fun Factory and Hot Octopuss, and now serves as a respected business consultant in the adult toy industry. We’ve also co-authored our book “Shameless Sex,” which helps people embrace their sexuality with confidence and ease.
What led you to this?
Our paths converged at an interesting time – April was navigating divorce while Amy was ending a complex six-year relationship with multiple breakups along the way. Our guest appearance on Sex With Emily sparked something special. We realized we could channel our personal experiences and professional knowledge into something meaningful. Our backgrounds in retail, education, and the pleasure product industry created the perfect foundation for what we do today. Plus we host guests every week with expertise in varying topics related to sex and relationships. That way we learn alongside the listener.
Can you tell us 5 words to describe yourself?
Brave, playful, hilarious, loving, and authentic. What you see is exactly what you get – we’re genuinely ourselves whether we’re recording the podcast, on social media, or meeting people in person. We bring a balance of taking sexuality seriously while keeping things light and approachable.
How do you feel when you wear lingerie as opposed to underwear?
April sees lingerie as a tool for creating specific experiences and energy, while everyday underwear serves practical self-care purposes. The quality and aesthetics matter deeply to her. Amy brings a different perspective as someone who embraces nudity and occasionally enjoys lingerie for public events like sex parties. Despite our different approaches, we both value quality materials that feel good against the skin and inspire confidence.
What is currently your favourite piece of lingerie that you own and why?
April’s go-to pieces are the Mia bodysuit and skirt by Something Wicked – versatile enough for both bedroom and everyday wear, making her feel confident in any setting. Amy loves her Montana dress, which showcases her long legs and has become her new signature piece for sex-positive events.
Empowerment looks different for everyone. For us, it means staying true to ourselves while acknowledging the world around us.
What is currently your favourite piece of lingerie that you own and why?
I have a wardrobe full! But there are two pieces in heavy rotation. I make sure to return to London at least once a year, and I always make sure to visit “Rigby & Peller.”
For those of you who do not know the name, they are a British luxury lingerie store in London. They made bespoke undergarments to the royals, and have worked with the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, Diana Princess of Wales as well as other members of the extended Royal family.
The bra and panties I have are both sumptuous and luxurious: a confection of floral colours and lace. I love them.
What does female empowerment mean to you?
To us, female empowerment means owning our desires and their expression – always within consensual boundaries – without seeking external validation. Whether it’s choosing lingerie or any form of self-expression, we believe in making choices for ourselves first. If others appreciate it, wonderful. If not, as we like to say, they can lovingly step aside.
What do you do to make yourself empowered/liberated/confident?
Empowerment looks different for everyone. For us, it means staying true to ourselves while acknowledging the world around us – but never compromising our core needs, desires, or standards just to please others. It’s about finding that sweet spot between personal authenticity and social awareness.
‘Female sexuality is no longer a taboo’ Do you agree with this statement?
The landscape varies significantly depending on location and culture. Here in California in 2025, we see progress mixed with persistent challenges. It’s a complex transition period – some areas are becoming more open while others face increasing restrictions. Regardless, we remain committed to helping people embrace their unique erotic selves safely and consensually.
What message would you give to your younger self eg as a teenager?
Our shared message would be: Your thoughts, needs, and desires matter just as much as anyone else’s – sometimes even more, especially regarding intimate experiences. We wish we’d known earlier that it’s okay to prioritize our pleasure and take the time our body’s need. Understanding and advocating for your own needs isn’t selfish – it’s essential.
