Wickedly Inspirational Women: Laura from Lumiere Photographic – boudoir photographer
Here at Something Wicked, empowerment is more than just a word – it’s at the heart of everything we do. We know that wearing our beautiful leather boudoir lingerie makes you feel invincible! Our latest Wickedly Inspirational woman knows all about how to empower other women and give them an incredible confidence boost, through the power of boudoir photography.
Meet Laura, from Lumiere Photographic in Yorkshire. An incredible female boudoir photographer, who has experience of sessions on both sides of the camera. A boudoir photography session is an incredibly powerful experience and can change the way you feel about yourself. She loves to see the reaction of her clients when they see the finished results of each session.
We love supporting other local, female run, independent companies! If you have ever wondered what was involved in a boudoir photography session, get in touch with Laura and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Tell us a bit about yourself, name, age, where you live?
Hello! I’m Laura, I turned 30 recently for the third time in a row 😉 I live in the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside in Ilkley! I love being outdoors and have a Labrador puppy (currently just 6 months old!). I enjoy going to the gym and am currently renovating my house! I’m allergic to silence and always have to have some kind of sound on! Music is a real passion of mine, I love seeing bands live. I’m a huge foodie and spend most of my time thinking about my next meal! I love the sun, I’m a serial holiday-er and love nothing more than a day by the pool with a good book!
Finding the right lingerie is something of an artform, because I find, when you get it right, it’s like a superpower!
What do you do?
I’m a photographer! Always have been (apart from 8 miserable months in recruitment after I got back from travelling when I decided to try a “proper” job!) I’ve literally done photography since school. I’m pretty much fully self taught. My business, Lumiere Photographic, has been going over 10 years and it has grown and morphed into the wonderful business that it is now! I mostly shoot boudoir and empowerment photography for amazing women! But I also do wedding, newborn and commercial photography just to keep things nice and varied.
Can you tell us 5 words to describe yourself?
Passionate, sarcastic, emotional, conscientious, driven
How do you feel when you wear lingerie as opposed to underwear?
Powerful! Finding the right lingerie is something of an artform, because I find, when you get it right, it’s like a superpower! It can be such an incredibly uplifting feeling and bring out a different side of you. It can give you a confidence boost like no other!
What is currently your favourite piece of lingerie that you own and why?
A black lace bodysuit. It’s beautifully flattering, makes me feel amazing and it’s comfortable!
What does female empowerment mean to you?
Confidence and control! Adjusting the mindset of how we feel about ourselves and our own bodies is a hugely powerful thing and to me, female empowerment is looking at ourselves, and thinking about ourselves, and thinking “My god I am glorious!”. So much of the worlds economy is based on women wanting to change and tweak ourselves into something “better”. If we all woke up one day and decided to love ourselves wholeheartedly and completely, we could literally rule the world.

What do you do to make yourself empowered/liberated/confident?
I take care of myself. I love weight lifting at the gym to make me feel strong, I love buying nice clothes to make me feel confident and carry myself well throughout the day, and I surround myself with positive and uplifting people. I love to move and walk and practice gratitude for all my body can do for me. If I’m ever feeling low in the body confidence department, I’ll take some boudoir self portraits to remind myself how good I can look! I take care of my mind with regular walks where I disconnect from social media and I see a therapist once a month which has been incredible.
‘Female sexuality is no longer a taboo’ Do you agree with this statement?
Sadly, no. I think we’ve got a long way to go before the world is comfortable with female sexuality and all that goes with it!
What message would you give to your younger self eg as a teenager?
Comparison is the thief of joy. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing, or how they’re doing it, or what they might think. Do things your way and do it with confidence, your gut instinct is always right. Oh, and you’re an absolute 10/10, don’t settle!
